Standing for the Word

3 Dec

I became a Christian 32 years ago after the birth of my first son. As with many new Christians, I was originally on fire for the Lord but within a couple of years, I quenched that fire. Initially, I was hungry for the Word and grew quickly. Within the first year of my Christian life I begged God to send me where He wanted and use me as He desired. Guess what, He did! So I bet you’re asking yourself “what’s the problem then?” Well, the problem was me! I obeyed and went where God led and everything about the change was perfect; except me. I got exactly what I asked for but was disappointed at the same time. I was on a different career path in a different location but still yearned for my old career path and old location. Instead of running down this new path and going where God led, I would take the path a few steps and then try to forge my own trail; I became a very rebellious child. I never rejected the faith that saved me but, I most certainly did nothing to advance His Kingdom over the last 30 years. Gratefully, my loving Father never left me and kept nudging me back whenever I strayed to far. When I get to the Judgement Seat of Christ, there will most likely be no rewards for the last 30 years and all my works will be burnt and gone (1 Cor 3:13). The good news is that God is not finished with me yet!

So I return to the path I left almost 30 years ago. I repent of my sins and yeild to my Father’s will. I have looked in the mirror for too many answers, relying on me and my intellect to forge my path in life. I will not be perfect, but I stand ready “to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you …” (1 Pe 3:15 NASB).

I don’t know what direction God will take me now, but if it is anywhere near the point I departed from a long time ago, I expect this blog to contain an eclectic mix of key learnings and apologetics. Regardless of what it ends up to be it will be based on the Bible rather than my thoughts and desires. Will you join me in Standing for the Word?
